RefoundingMLK4Yesterday, Glenn Beck compared himself to MLK.  But, this isn’t the only example of Glenn Beck bastardizing memory of MLK.  Glenn Beck has also snuck MLK into his the refounders graphic/ logo/collage.

Glenn Beck launched the Refounders on 9/12.  Since 9/12 was ending, I guess he needed another gimmick to keep his show on the road.  After characterizing government as diseased, Glenn Beck described the refounders:

So what do we do? We stop spreading the disease. It’s time to reconnect with our founding principles. Fifty-six men signed the original documents that every American patriot still believes in with all their heart over 200 years later. Fifty-six men changed the world forever.

[...]

I had this idea the other night, while reading Thomas Jefferson. Let’s begin the search for the 56 men and women who help us re-found America: Patriots, “refounders” willing to put their nation ahead of themselves and their party affiliation.

The logo for this project is what Glenn Beck snuck MLK’s picture into.I am very confident that MLK would not have been a member of Glenn Beck’s refounders.  You see, the refounders have given up on the process of this government entirely.  They walked away from the table of democratic discourse, instead opting for the petulant approach to refound or start the whole thing from scratch all because they can’t have their way right now.

No, MLK would not have been a member of such an organization – history tells us so.

Glenn Beck has really been pushing the MLK imagery lately.  Aside from comparing himself to MLK, he recently announced that he’ll be holding a rally at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of MLK’s I Have a Dream speech.  And, in the lead up to the 9/12 rally, Glenn Beck consistently compared tea party protestors to black civil rights activists with warnings that the government was going to shoot them with fire hoses or release dogs on them (none of which happened to the teaparty protesters, of course.)

Further, Glenn Beck’s history of racially inflammatory statements add insult to the injury that Beck oft attempts to inflict on MLK’s memory.  To put it simply, Glenn Beck should remove MLK from the refounders logo.  He won’t, of course.  But, this should harden our resolve to contact his few remaining sponsors in order to hold him accountable for preying on racial anxiety and denigrating the memory of true civil rights champion.

Here are screenshots from the opening sequence of his show featuring the refounders logo:
