BMW Confirms: Ads Excluded From Glenn Beck’s Program; And More…
Last week, some BMW advertisements ran during Glenn Beck’s show. This seemed a bit strange as I was pretty sure that BMW had excluded Glenn Beck from ad rotations many months ago. Accordingly, the StopBeck effort reached out to BMW for clarification.
BMW confirmed that Glenn Beck’s program was already excluded from their ad purchases – and had been for several months. They advised that the ads in question were from a regional BMW group. Notably BMW indicated that the ads were “bonus” ads, meaning that they were non-paid ads “ran at the discretion of the network/cable provider.” Accordingly, BMW took action to ensure that going forward even regional advertisements (one’s purchased by dealer groups) will be excluded from Glenn Beck’s program.
I’ll leave it to others to speculate as to why unpaid commercial advertisements are running on Glenn Beck’s show.
Statement from Manager of Marketing Communications and Consumer Events for BMW of North America (emphasis added):
When I first investigated your inquiry, I verified that the Glenn Beck program is not on our national television programming “buy” list (i.e., BMW of North America does not purchase this program). However, upon further investigation we learned that a BMW dealer group did run in the program via an “ADU” unit (i.e., a bonus/non-paid spot). This bonus spot aired in the New York area through the Tri-State dealer group at the discretion of the network/cable provider and not BMW.
Moving forward, we have specified that this program will not be purchased nor will it be utilized in bonus weight at the national or regional levels of BMW advertising. I hope this clarifies the matter.
The significance of this action speaks for itself.
You can find a list of the 100+ advertisers that have disassociated their brands from Glenn Beck’s vitriol, sexism and race-baiting here.
Oh, and don’t forget that the broadcast of Glenn Beck’s show in the U.K. has been running without any commercials since February 9.
Many thanks to all those participating in this effort. Your tweets and emails to sponsors do matter!
Onward we go…

The non-paid ads that “ran at the discretion of the network/cable provider” are from ad space inventory not sold to other advertisers because they didn’t want them. In other words, it’s a way to burn off unsold ad slots by giving them for free to an advertiser as a bonus. The advertiser doesn’t know when the spots will run, as it’s up to the discretion of the station.
Stations/cable providers also try to burn off unsold ad inventory by selling packages of them at discounted rates. The problem with this is that you never know where your ads will end up, or at what hour.

Kudos to BMW, who were already on my list of exceptional companies for consideration of future potential purchases. Next year I can finally turn in my “Mommy wagon” for a car that has ME in the forefront of the decision making process and not my children; thanks for giving me another fantastic reason to look to a BMW.

Regarding the reasons for running unpaid ads on Bec’sk Sour-Hour; to try to give his specious so-called “reasoning” some air of legitimacy.
What I always found amusing is, however, is speculating on how few Beckheads would have any interest in watching an educational channel, or have the money to buy a decent BMW or invest; and so on with all the things most usually associated with “the elites”. It seems to me that most of these companies were just wasting advertising dollars that would be better spent on, for example, Mad Money or Squawk Box.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the free ad spots were given to corporations participating in the boycott to give the illusion to Glenn Beck supporters that the boycott is giving way and that they were victorious…
I am sure some happy tea baggers jumped out of their seat and popped a cork on their Miller High life to celebrate the end of the boycott!

Umm.. not their loss.
Most BMW owners I know.. are progressive…. EXACTLY like BMW itself.
Sure, there are some owners – like you- who are totally lost and backward in your thinking.
To each their own.
But you CLEARLY don’t know the true BMW mindset.
Maybe you should go by a Yugo
