Glenn Beck Now Offering Hard News
Glenn Beck is now the keeper of a modern day Burning bush (at least that’s what he’d like people to believe)…
Glenn Beck is a willful deceiver, an intentional misinformer and a disseminator of reckless vitriol. But, don’t even think about criticizing Glenn Beck for it. Why? Well, for the past few years, Glenn Beck and his defenders have argued that Mr. Beck is not a hard newsperson, but instead an entertainer and a commentator. Thus, they contend that Mr. Beck should not be held to the standards of a journalist.
In the abstract, there is some merit to this argument.
However, Mr. Beck often offers up a mix of purported fact and opinion. I don’t care how bold your opinion is or what you call yourself, if you’re propagating an intentional lie (i.e. the existence of FEMA camps) then there should be some accountability for it. Especially when you have a platform as large as Mr. Beck’s as well as a TV show on a self-described news channel.
But, per Glenn Beck, this debate is now over.
On Monday, riding the wave of publicity from his 828 rally (or, his prelude to a book launch event while trashing purple recipients), Mr. Beck launched a new partly hard news website called The Blaze:
The Blaze is a news, information and opinion site brought to you by Glenn Beck and a dedicated team of writers, journalists & video producers.
So there you have it. Glenn Beck is now a hard news journalist in addition to a commentator.
For those wondering, The Blaze appears to be an hommage to the Burning bush from the Book of Exodus. This contention is supported by my understanding of Glenn Beck’s branding/marketing schemes, Mr. Beck’s constant references the Burning bush lately as well as his stated belief that god is now directly communicating with him.
This foray into hard news is an odd maneuver. Mr. Beck proudly proclaims that his company is nothing more than an entertainment company, which doesn’t exactly comport with hard news. Also, Mr. Beck has previously described himself as “a rodeo clown” adding that “if you take what I say as gospel, you’re an idiot.” It’s not everyday that you hear a hard news person telling you to be wary of their own reports.
Just a few more nuggets about Glenn Beck’s news venture:
- At present, the sole sponsors of Beck’s Burning bush are: Goldline (shock!) and Dick Armey’s FreedomWorks.
- The Associate Editor, Merideth Jessup, was the author of the July 2010 Townhall Magazine coverstory on Glenn Beck. The story was fiercely defensive of Glenn Beck in the face of his continuing advertiser losses. We contacted Ms. Jessup regarding the timing of the article and her recent employment by Mr. Beck. Via Twitter, Ms. Jessup assured us that she was not aware of her new position while publishing the friendly Beck piece nor was she hired as a reward for the piece. We take her at her word and offer our congratulions on this new position.
Glenn Beck: hard news journalist, keeper of modern day Burning bush.
Onward we go…

It is interesting, if I recall correctly I believe in the Mormon faith that something terrible will happen in America and the Mormons will save the country. If I am correct, then it makes a lot of sense for Glenn Beck to believe all this crap he is saying. He probably thinks he will be the one to save this country when that bad thing in the Mormon faith happens. That is why he is all for buying gold, and stockpiling food and equipment and weapons. Personally, I believe he is a Fascist himself. When you compare the 5 core themes of fascism to Beck, he fits four out of five. He first is “Anti-Rationalism”. In other words, he dos not trust intellectualism in America. Just like Mussolini used slogans such as “Action not Talk” and “Inactivity is death”. Instead Glenn is all about the soul, emotions and instincts, which is all about of “anti-rationalism”. Second is that in Fascism, there is always a struggle, to Glenn Beck there is always a struggle. A struggle between democracy and socialism, or Nazis. Third, in Fascism there is some type of Leadership and elitism. Even though Beck says that the people need the rise up and all. He also, if I recall correctly, (please correct me if I am wrong) that he wants to install a new democratic order where he would pick the leadership till they have elections in place. Also, if you want to take the core theme of Fascism and say that Beck supporting capitalism is like him supporting the wealthy, but that’s up to interpretation. The fourth core theme is ultra nationalism. This man is super nationalistic. He makes the founding fathers seem like gods in some cases. To me it seems, if you support first amendment rights to the people building the mosque in New York, then you are un-American. Beck is extremely nationalistic. So that was my take from examining fascism and Beck.

Glenn Beck: marketing gorilla. I came across a book written by Mark J. Stoddard, who used to work for Howard Ruff. In it, he laid out a “Marketing Mindset”, some of here: Find a big mouth to tell your story.-Keep your eyes on the banana.-Carve out a position in the customer’s mind.-Educate (?) your audience.-Use drama to build tension-play to emotions, not intellect.-Understand and use human nature. Don’t fight it or try to impose your will. (guess that is where that “do your own research” crapola of his comes in…)-Ignore critics, but test them carefully.-One effective idea is to use your competition. Let them beat themselves, with your careful prodding. Glenn Beck is not a “pundit”, but a “brand”, and his reprehensible monologues are his product…providing a platform that allows for the sale of books, personal appearances, etc. BTW, I still think the robe and cheesy gold spraypainted staff were a sign of desperation on his part…he came back from vacation and found he had lost audience share (read: some of his customers.) (sigh) The very smart and decent people from the progressive media are working so hard to get the truth out…but as long as the Murdoch/Koch Brothers droogie Beck keeps scaring ignorant, racist, gullible people into advancing the plutocracy’s agendas, he will be on the loose, enriching himself along the way.
