Caption Contest: Glenn Beck’s Broken Promise
Sep 25th
A while back, we had our first caption contest. The submissions were so good that I wasn’t able to pick a winner! Well, we’re having another (and, this time, I promise to pick a winner).
In case you missed it, Glenn Beck is breaking his promise not to financially profit from his contemptible 828 stunt. He repeatedly said that all proceeds from the event will go the Special Operations Warriors Fund, the charity that he used in order to raise money for the event tax-free. He’s doing this by selling an 828 picture book for $35 – and if you order now, More >
Glenn Beck Isn’t Comparing Himself To MLK, Except When He’s Comparing Himself To MLK
Sep 24th
Glenn Beck’s 828 event is contemptible and odious for plenty of reasons. One of the charges levied against Glenn Beck is that he was attempting to hijack MLK’s memory. This claim was based on Glenn Beck’s proclamation that 828 was about reclaiming the civil rights movement. Despite Glenn Beck’s own words on the matter, he insisted that he was not trying to hijack MLK’s memory and pushed back against the notion by asserting that “Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King.”
Now, what’s the best way Glenn Beck to demonstrate that he has absolutely no intention of comparing himself to MLK?

Got $35? Then You Could Own A Picture of Glenn Beck Doing His Homework!*
Sep 24th
There are some people that squeeze blood from a stone. Then, there’s Glenn Beck, who convinces people the stone is actually God telling them to give Glenn Beck money.
You might think 828 is over, but Glenn Beck’s not done cashing in on MLK’s memory just yet. You see for the low price of $35, you too can own a picture book filled with photos of Glenn Beck and others from his contemptible 828 stunt – and if you order now, you’ll even get a free picture of Glenn Beck:
Now, I know you’re going to say: But, he’s giving all the money More >
At 828 Rally, Glenn Beck Lies About Holding George Washington Speech At National Archives
Sep 3rd
This is the actual cover of Glenn Beck's magazine
On August 28, Glenn Beck held his “restoring honor” rally. But, in Glenn Beckistan restoring honor means telling a blatant lie to tens of thousands of people. On stage, Glenn Beck held his hands out and proclaimed:
“I went to the National Archives, and I held the first inaugural address written in his own hand by George Washington.”
Well, it turns out, this was a total lie. Mother Jones has the scoop (emphasis added):
Beck did receive a special VIP tour of the archives, arranged by an as-yet unidentified member of Congress. During that tour, he More >
Bob Kincaid Interviews Angelo of StopBeck About Glenn Beck, 828, Advertiser Boycott and More…
Sep 1st
On August 21, Bob Kincaid from The Horn Radio Network interviewed Angelo of the StopBeck effort.
The discussion covers a wide range of topics related to right-wing misinformation, accountability and effective activism. I think the topics are interesting and there’s a lot of depth here. I strongly suggest giving it a listen, I’m confident you’ll think it’s worthwhile… (more…)

"Buy Pirelli's Miracle Elixir!"
Glenn Beck’s 828 event was unbearably unoriginal. For the most part, he recycled material from his radio program (at times verbatim) – oh and when he wasn’t doing that he was ripping off lines from Obama’s stump speech or reading the Gettysburg Address.
In short, he tricked tens of thousands of people into traveling to D.C. in order to listen to him repeat material they’ve already heard or would absolutely be revolted by if the reader was say…the sitting President of the United States. But, I’m sure they’re not the least bit disappointed.
But, this whole stunt (which is More >

Glenn Beck 828 Speaker, Ted Nugent, Suggested Killing People That Supported Healthcare Reform
Aug 20th
Update: Although Glenn Beck originally said that Nugent will be speaking at the event. A few weeks ago, they quietly announced that Nugent regretfully will be unable to attend. I apologize for reporting Glenn Beck’s own words and not trolling discussion forums on his Facebook page for updates/corrections to Beck’s major announcements.

Media Matters has a great post up today about Ted Nugent, who will be speaking at Glenn Beck’s upcoming 828 rally (emphasis added):
One of the scheduled speakers at Glenn Beck’s 8-28 “reclaim the civil rights movement” rally recently reportedly told an audience that he “like[d]” them because there were “a lot of white More >
Fox News’ Van Susteren Calls For Glenn Beck To Move 828 Rally
Aug 17th
Glenn Beck’s decision to hold his I Have A Scheme rally at the same location and on the anniversary of MLK’s I Have A Dream speech has drawn the ire of civil rights organizations and leaders. But today, an unexpected voice has been added to chorus of critics – one of Glenn Beck’s colleagues at Fox News.
Today, Greta Van Susteren publicly expressed her opposition to Glenn Beck’s rally and called on him to move the event. On her blog, Greta explained (emphasis added):
On August 28th my colleague Glenn Beck is going to lead an event on the mall in Washington, DC. It is the More >
Permit For Glenn Beck’s 828 Rally Still Not Approved; Update: Permit Approved
Aug 17th
A while back, Bill Press reported that the permit for Glenn Beck’s 828 rally had not been approved yet. Well, as August 17, the permit is still pending.
But don’t get too excited, the permit is very likely to be approved. The delay is largely attributable to working out logistical issues.
The official description of Glenn Beck’s event for the permit is a “demonstration to honor veterans.” This is ironic given Glenn Beck’s suggestion that the Purple Heart lacks “honor and integrity” and his plans to do away with it at the event.
OpenCongress adds:
The August 28 rally falls on the 47th anniversary of the More >
