Glenn Beck Isn’t Comparing Himself To MLK, Except When He’s Comparing Himself To MLK
Sep 24th
Glenn Beck’s 828 event is contemptible and odious for plenty of reasons. One of the charges levied against Glenn Beck is that he was attempting to hijack MLK’s memory. This claim was based on Glenn Beck’s proclamation that 828 was about reclaiming the civil rights movement. Despite Glenn Beck’s own words on the matter, he insisted that he was not trying to hijack MLK’s memory and pushed back against the notion by asserting that “Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King.”
Now, what’s the best way Glenn Beck to demonstrate that he has absolutely no intention of comparing himself to MLK?

Permit For Glenn Beck’s 828 Rally Still Not Approved; Update: Permit Approved
Aug 17th
A while back, Bill Press reported that the permit for Glenn Beck’s 828 rally had not been approved yet. Well, as August 17, the permit is still pending.
But don’t get too excited, the permit is very likely to be approved. The delay is largely attributable to working out logistical issues.
The official description of Glenn Beck’s event for the permit is a “demonstration to honor veterans.” This is ironic given Glenn Beck’s suggestion that the Purple Heart lacks “honor and integrity” and his plans to do away with it at the event.

The August 28 rally falls on the 47th anniversary of the More >
Bill Press Interviews StopBeck Again
Jul 1st
On his July 1 radio show, Bill Press interviewed Angelo S. Carusone, the organizer of the StopBeck effort.
In addition to hosting a nationally syndicated radio show, Bill is a White House correspondent and an author. His most recent book is Toxic Talk.
Bill and Angelo discussed Glenn Beck’s 828 Rally. On the surface, Glenn Beck is attempting to supplant MLK’s memory. But, it goes deeper than that. The rally is just a giant book launching party. And, Glenn Beck is raising money for the event, tax-free, under the guise of supporting the troops.

Glenn Beck Defends His Decision To Hold Rally On MLK Anniversary
Jun 29th
Glenn Beck has a history of linking himself to Martin Luther King. For example, a few months ago, he was appropriating MLK’s image into his “refounders” logo.
I Don't See A Resemblance. Do You?
Recently, Glenn Beck’s decision to hold a book promotion event which he’s masquerading as a “historic” event to “restore honor” to America is drawing sharp criticism from civil rights leaders and organizations.
Why?
Well, because Glenn Beck has proclaimed his intention to pick up Martin Luther King’s mantle. Accordingly, he’s holding his rally…err…book event…on the anniversary of MLK’s “I have a dream speech” at the exact same location that MLK gave the speech More >
Colbert: Glenn Beck Is Bringing MLK’s Movement Back To Its Conservative White Roots
Jun 24th
Glenn Beck plans to pick up on MLK’s dream, in part by holding a rally in the exact same location and on the exact same date that MLK delivered his famous “I have a dream speech.” Think of it as a civil rights movement, but for white people (that’s what Glenn Beck does). (more…)
Refounding Martin Luther King, Glenn Beck Style
Nov 26th
Yesterday, Glenn Beck compared himself to MLK. But, this isn’t the only example of Glenn Beck bastardizing memory of MLK. Glenn Beck has also snuck MLK into his the refounders graphic/ logo/collage.
Glenn Beck launched the Refounders on 9/12. Since 9/12 was ending, I guess he needed another gimmick to keep his show on the road. After characterizing government as diseased, Glenn Beck described the refounders:
So what do we do? We stop spreading the disease. It’s time to reconnect with our founding principles. Fifty-six men signed the original documents that every American patriot still believes in with all their heart over More >
